When making the decision to breed one of our bitches and who to breed her to, many issues are taken into consideration. This includes the overall structure, health, and mental aptitude of the female, our goals in choosing to breed her, and what suitable stud dogs of equal or greater quality are out there. We try to select from the best of the best, holding each of the three areas of consideration in equal weight with one another. We aim for "working dogs who look pretty, and pretty dogs who can work"! We do our best to avoid problems, by making sure we are aware of the temperament and drive levels of the breeding animals, and the health results for them and their relatives. We only consider dogs that are hip and eye tested, and free of epilepsy and other known problems. Litters are all tested between 6-8 weeks of age for CEA.

We require that all the owners of our pups health test them for hip and elbow dysplasia, and hereditary eye defects, regardless if the dog is a companion dog, working partner, or show dog. We also require that the puppy attends at least one 8 week dog training session no later than 15
weeks of age. But with a dog as active and intelligent as the Border Collie, all prospective owners should be prepared to train and work their dog regularly throughout it's life. This helps to keep a Border Collie healthy and happy!
